Majrooh Sultanpuri was born in Sultanpur (Uttar Padesh) in 1922. His real name was Asrar Husssain Khan but he is better known  by his pen-name Majrooh Sultanpuri.  He wrote in almost all of the  forms of lyrics like  melodies, ghazals, romantic songs,  qawaalis, shairies  etc. over 50 years in Indian film industry. He started his filmi carreer with filim Shahjahan (1946) by writing lyrics.   Majrooh  worked with many music directors namely  Anand-Milind, Anil Biswas, Chitragupta, Khaiyaam, Kishore Kumar, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Madan Mohan, N.Dutta, Naushad, O.P.Nayyar, R.D.Burman, Ravi, Roshan, S.D.Burman, and Salil Choudhury. He also worked with Anu Mallik, Bappi Lahiri, Basu Chakravarty, C.Ramachandra, Ghulam Mohd., Hemant Kumar, Husnlal-Bhagatram, Kalyanji-Anandji, Mukul Roy, Rajesh Roshan, S.Madan, Shanker-Jaikishan, Tushar Bhatia, Usha Khanna and Vasant Desai. He received Filmfare award for his lyrics in film 'Dosti' in 1964 and he was awarded by highest honor of Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1994 for life time contibution to india cinema. He died on 25th May, 2000 in Mumbai. His famous films are Shahjehan (1946), Aar Par (1954), Mr. & Mrs. 55 (1955), CID (1956), Paying Guest (1957), Nau Do Gyaarh (1957), Solva Sal (1958), Chalti Ka Naam Gari (1958), Sujata (1959), Bambai Ka Babu (1960),Tesri Manzil (1966), Dastak (1970), Pakeezah (1971), Anamika (1973), Abhiman (1973), Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), Dil Ashana Hai (1992), Andaz Apana Apana  (1994) and many more.
