Just like previous elections, NIC provided its full support in smooth conduct of General
Election for Parliament. The famous Amethi and Sultanpur seats lie under the
jurisdiction of administrative control of Sultanpur District Election Officer. The
National Informatics Centre's district office was turned into a Nodal Centre for
Polling/Counting Personnels arrangement for 2064 polling booths spread into eight Assembly
segments of these two Parliamentary seats.
The main notable fact during this election was full computerisation of counting process.
NIC established a Computer Centre at the Counting place supported by huge hardware
infrastructure comprising of twelve systems (P-III & P-IV), four robust laser
printers, seven small and a two KVA UPS, two KVA CVT, CD writers, two dial up connections
for DAMA of NIC/BSNL internet access etc.. One dedicated diesel generator was used for
constant power supply. The whole counting data read from EVMs were sent to the Centre
continuously and enetered into computer, processed and finally reports were printed
immediately for all the assembly segments round wise. The Amethi assembly by-election also
took place alongwith the Parliamentary election. The final reports to be sent to CEO &
ECI were also generated using the data.
The counting computerisation project was manned by twenty five personnels including twenty
technical and five non-technicals, selected from collectorate and development offices and
worked efficiently under the supervision of NIC officers to make the project a
success. |
